Cocheco River Project

The Cocheco River Project Committee is lead by Mark Seymour, and is focussed on the section of river from the Watson Road dam downstream to the head of Whittier Street Bridge. The scope of this project is the same as the other river projects, namely to establish a stewardship of the river for better undestanding and to assist future projects on the rivers.

Recent proposed changes to the fishing rules on the Cocheco river, now include a section of river that will be catch and release only. This section from the Watson Road dam downstream to the head of tide, will be open for catch and release only, from Oct 16 - 4th Saturday in April.

Two of the most important aspects that need to be monitored are water flow and water temperatures. These two factors play an important role in determining what fish fish can be stocked and how many, and what the potential for their survival is. An excellent resource for this information is available at :

As as this information is assimilated and compiled with geographic information, a more complete assesment of the river can be achieved.
