GBTU HOSTS NH'S FIRST TROUT ULIMITED KIDS TROUT CAMP

Kids Trout Camp
July 11-15, 2007

Great Bay Trout Unlimited of Exeter, New Hampshire, hosted New Hampshire’s first Kids Trout Camp in Pittsburg on July 11 – July 15. A total of six children participated in this years Kids Trout Camp, each coming from various locations in the northeast including 2 from New York. The children attended the five day, four night camp, which provided them the opportunity of a lifetime; to learn how to fly fish and experience first hand the precious natural environment that surrounds our trout streams. Classroom and riverside sessions included fly casting instruction, river stewardship, stream entomology, learning to “read a river”, fish biology and behavior, fly tying, proper releasing of fish, and most of all, appreciating and having fun on a picturesque New Hampshire mountain stream.

The camp offered a one-to-one camper-to-counselor ratio. Three of the campers were sponsored by other NH Trout Unlimited chapters. All of the campers received information about how Trout Unlimited plays a vital roll in coldwater fisheries conservation and restoration.

Sponsors included LL Bean, Mountain Road Fly Shop in Raymond, NH, Albright Tackle, Blue Fly Cafe, Snowfield Cabins in Pittsburg, NH, and the Saco River, Merrimac Valley, and Pemigewasset Chapters of Trout Unlimited. LL Bean’s very generous donation of $2,000.00 in gear and financial support was a significant factor in helping to make first Great Bay Trout Unlimited’s Kids Trout Camp a great success.
