Amy's Treat 2010 by Wendy Nixon
As you may have seen on our website or past newsletters,
Great Bay Trout Unlimited hosted a day of fun, on the river in
October 2010, for 7 Seacoast Cancer Center patients and their
families through Amy's Treat, a nonprofit organization working
with the Seacoast Cancer Center helping cancer patients with
"treats"; and this was one of them. The participants learned
to tie knots, had casting instruction and then onto the river
for the true experience of catching and releasing rainbows,
browns, and brookies on the Cocheco River; with special thanks
to Measured Progress for allowing us to use their parking lot
as a place to set up, and lunch provided by Amy's Treat.
The next event, proposed for October 2011, may be a little
time off; but Great Bay TU will be hosting its Second Annual
Amy's Treat Day, so here is your opportunity to volunteer for
a few hours, half day, or full day. Areas of volunteering
include, helping set up/take down, casting instruction,
"river helpers" (showing techniques of casting on the river
you don't need to be a guide, just have experience in fly
fishing), lunch set up, other miscellaneous that comes up.
Last year, we had so many volunteers that it made this event
even more fun. If you would like to participate and join us on
the river, contact Wendy Nixon at fishinnixon2@comcast.net.
I'll put you on the calender! Hope to see you in the fall.
