The Didymo Algae Is On The Move
Tuesday, July 31
Two North Country Trout Unlimited chapters have joined with other concerned conservationists to publish an info card on didymo, the highly invasive and extremely nasty weed also know as "rock snot." The Lake Champlain and Tri-Lakes chapters of Trout Unlimited, along with the Ausable River Association and Boquet River Associations, along with Jones Outfitters and the Hungry Trout Fly shops in Lake Placid have reacted immediately after DEC Region 5's Fishery manager Bill Schoch alerted them to the danger. The invasive algae is only about 100 miles away from the Adirondacks in Vermont. Once it gets into our streams, there is no way to eradicate it. It has caused serious declines of trout in other countries, such as New Zealand, and prefers clean flowing water- like trout steams. Look for the flyer in your tackle shop, and remember to check, clean and dry your equipment if you fish in different steams, especially if you go to Vermont!.
