Oyster River to Seek Rivers Management Protection Program Designation

Following closely on the heels of the Cocheco River, the Oyster River Watershed Association and the Strafford Regional Planning Commission are exploring the nomination of the Oyster River for consideration of becoming another of NH's designated rivers. The section of the river from its headwaters in Barrington to the Mill Pond Dam in Durham is being considered. The river designation would involve sections of the river in the towns of Barrington, Lee, Madbury and Durham, with the towns of Nottingham and Dover also contributing to the Oyster River's watershed. River designation under New Hampshire's Rivers Management and Protection Program leads to the formation of a Local Advisory Committee with representatives from the river communities and, with the technical aid and guidance from NH DES, a management plan for the designated sections of the river. For more information follow this link to the Oyster River Watershed Association's brochure.
