Cocheco River Local Advisory Committee Being Formed

Names are being considered by New Hampshire DES Commissioner Thomas Burack for seats on the seven member Cocheco River Local Advisory Committee (LAC) which is mandated since the rivers designation under the Rivers Management and Protection Program this past summer. Commissioner Burack is charged with the appointment of LAC members who then serve a term of 3 years on the committee. River designation requires a formal nomination process and eventually legislation. The LAC and NH DES as well as other stakeholders in the river watershed will then work together to formulate a management plan to ensure the rivers health and optimal enjoyment for the populace. A first meeting of the LAC was tentatively planned for December 2009 but has been postponed until January 2010. Great Bay Trout Unlimited is anxiously awaiting Commissioner Burack's appointees to the committee. We will keep you posted.
