About the Great Bay Chapter

Our Mission

The mission statement of the Great Bay Chapter of Trout unlimited is to conserve, protect, and improve the coldwater, and estuarine envirnoments of the Great Bay, Souther New Hampshire, and southern Maine regions. Our chapter will actively seek to enhance the development of self sustaining fisheries, and support other organizations, and clubs, which support these ideals.

The Great Bay Chapter of Trout Unlimited is local to South Eastern New Hampshire and Southern Maine.

One of the unique features of this area is that it is a coastal estuarine environment that also happens to be surrounded by cold water streams and ponds, which provide excellent habitat for Salmon and Trout. In years gone by salmon returned to these rivers to spawn and great efforts are being made to re-establish this lost fishery.

In addition, work continues to upgrade, improve and maintain fragile local stream and estuarine environments. The common misconception of TU being club of "elitists" could not be further from truth. TU members are simply devoted cold water fishery conservationists, who believe in protecting a precious resource for ALL to enjoy. We also happen to like fishing !

Monthly meetings are held on the first Monday of each month in the fall, winter and spring at the Urban Forestry Center in Portsmouth, NH.

A guest speaker is usally present at each meeting and it's where the best fishing reports can be heard.
